Character Information:
Here's a story of a strange little boy..
Personality:
Vanitas is a rather special child. Where someone like, say, Pinocchio strives to become a real boy by being good and learning life lessons, Vanitas attempts to do so by merging with his other half and forging a weapon that can destroy the worlds.
Special, right?
The first thing you need to know when dealing with Van is that he's pure darkness. He was created with Master Xehanort pulled all of the darkness out of a boy named Ventus and created another being in the process. There is no light within him whatsoever and he doesn't care about others outside of his other half. Even the Unversed, creatures made from the darkness that consume hearts, come from Vanitas himself. They are what he calls "fledgling emotions under my control" and sends them out to destroy worlds and take them over so they can be warped by darkness. Everything his other half is to the light--goodness, hope, love, joy--he is to the darkness--destruction, pain, suffering, and hate being some of the key components that one would need to make their very own Vanitas at home!
Because of what he is, Vanitas really only has the darkest emotions possible, at least that's what he'd tell you. It's not hard to see, right away, just how twisted he is, getting kick out of screwing with others and causing them physical harm. A part of him also relishes getting hurt himself, thriving on the pain and using it to drive his own rage and hatred further. Honestly, pain is probably one of his favorite things ever because it's what he's always know--it's always been a constant--since the day he was "born". It fascinates him to watch how others react to it and he gets excited over the prospect of causing pain to others. There was only so much he was able to do while he still existed and so, like a small child that's still learning the ways of the world, there's a lot he wants to explore and attempt on his own just because he can.
Vanitas has a little bit of an anger problem as well. See, he really doesn't like when things don't go his way and will get rather violent over it. He'll snap at the drop of a hat and go from taunting someone to beating them to a bloody pulp without batting an eye. Something doesn't go as planned? He flips out and attempts to tear someone to shreds. Someone hurts Ventus that isn't him? He'll smother them with darkness and watch them scream in agony as their heart is ripped from their chest. He doesn't attempt to control his anger, really doesn't know how if we're going to be honest, and seems to just enjoy letting it all out. Because darkness and the emotions associated with it are what make Vanitas who he is, he's even more difficult to deal with during his bouts of rage and hate so it's best to keep away from him or have a good way of subduing him if need be.
Underneath all the dark in crazy is a broken puppet. Vanitas has been manipulated since he was created and used as a weapon since Xehanort didn't feel like doing it all himself. He does best when he has someone pulling the strings and without a master is just a wild, untamed little shit that will just cause pain and destruction because it's fun, so long as he has the ability to do so. Otherwise, he has no purpose; no direction. Given this, it wouldn't be hard to get him to do what you wanted him to do, though the right incentive has to be given. He won't just go along with anyone--especially if they are too full of light since he despises all lights but Ventus. (And even then it's a love/hate sort of thing with them.)
Long story short, Van is an incomplete little psycho that gets off on pain and suffering.
5-10 Key Character Traits:
+Obsessive: He's maybe just a little bit obsessed with merging with Ventus again and forging the X-Blade because that's what will keep him alive and thriving. He obsesses over preparing his other half for this; obsesses over everything he sets his mind to really.
+Needy: At the core of his very being, Vanitas needs to be whole again; needs to embrace who he is and what he is. He needs to be with Ventus and needs to forge the X-Blade. That's what drives him to do what he does. There's not much else in life that he needs outside of that.Too bad he lost.
+Manipulative: Anything he can do to get his way, he'll do. Several times over he messed with the minds of the Wayfinder Trio in order to get them where they needed to be and get them to do the things he needed them to do. He will use any means necessary and spin any lies he needs to in order to pull the strings. (Though he is very much a puppet himself.)
+Lost: Despite how he acts, Vanitas really has no idea what to do when he isn't trying to strengthen himself and forge the X-Blade. He's kind of like a lost puppy that is just wandering around dragging it's leash behind him and getting into trouble here and there.
+Sadistic: Van gets a real thrill out of fucking with the Wayfinder Trio and people in general. He'll say terrible things, do horrible things, and just all around be an ass because he can and because he loves to see them crumble. Pain and suffering is what strengthens his Unversed and he loves that feeling.
+Broken: Without Ventus, Vanitas is really only half a person. He can manage pretty well and fakes it real good but he really doesn't know how to function unless someone is calling the shots and he has some sort of purpose. Take away his purpose and his master and he's just a broken doll.
Would you prefer a monster that FITS your character’s personality, CONFLICTS with it, EITHER, or opt for 100% RANDOMIZATION? either!
Opt-Outs: This time around, nadda!
